From the age of 60, the skin changes and certain makeup gestures can mark the features instead of enhancing them. Foundation that covers too much, eyes that are too busy… A professional makeup artist reveals the most common mistake and shares her advice for a brighter, more natural face.
Every decade has its share of changes, and makeup is no exception to this rule. When skin becomes mature, it may lack suppleness, radiance and elasticity. It then becomes imperative to adapt your beauty products in order to maintain a radiant face. “Makeup is a powerful tool that, when used correctly, can make you more radiant at any age“, explains Laura Kay, professional makeup artist, to the British media Daily Mail. “Many people repeat the same mistakes or habits without knowing it and don’t change their makeup over time.” Indeed, there are certain unspoken rules and application tips that will transform and enhance your features. Follow the guide.
Please note, this is not about throwing your products in the trash after 60 years, but about making some changes. The first mistake that often comes up in your sixties? Opting for makeup that is too busy or based on social media trends which can then overwhelm natural features. “Overly made-up eyes often dominate the face, while heavy foundation can easily sink into wrinkles, instantly aging“, assures the expert. What she prescribes instead? Apply a light base to even out the complexion without weighing it down. A CC cream, an illuminating cream or even a complexion serum are good options. The only watchword: focus on references that mix skincare and makeup to benefit from a hydrating and plumping action.
We adorn the eyes with natural colors that enhance the look without appearing excessive. As for the lips, they should be enhanced with gloss or lipstick with a satin finish. “Neutral tones with a pop of color, like a soft pink or coral, are very flattering but avoid overly matte finishes, which accentuate fine lines“, continues Laura Kay.
The aspect that should not be overlooked? Eyebrows. These can totally transform your face. They must then frame the face harmoniously without appearing too pronounced or too thin. A well-maintained and well-shaped eyebrow can give a real boost to the face. Take the time to trace it and perfect the line: with a pencil with an ultra-fine point, draw them, hair by hair. Be careful to choose the right shade, otherwise you risk giving a harsher or more artificial effect. You can also discipline them with a gel.
