Zaya Tombou couldn’t believe it, this Saturday, August 31, when she heard her name indicating that she was the one who became Miss Mayotte. The regional election ceremony took place at theIbis Hotelin Petite-Terre. And it was Ève Gilles, aka Miss France 2024, who placed the crown on the winner’s head before Zaya Tombou shed a few tears, visibly very moved.
Who is Zaya Tombou, Miss Mayotte?
Zaya Tombou is only 20 years old and comes from the small town of Acoua. The young beauty queen succeeds Houdayifa Chibaco who won the sash last year. The candidate, who is 1m73 tall, is very involved locally and appeared confident during the regional competition which was to designate a winner from among 8 candidates.
She intends to use her new media exposure to serve a cause that is close to her heart, as stated in her application: “Environmental protection, essential for Mayotte in the face of the challenges of global warming and the promotion of Mahoran artists on the national and international scene.” Very moved by her election, she thanked “infinitely“Eve Gilles”for his valuable advice” on his Instagram account, the day after the election.
Zaya Tombou, a Miss very proud of her origins
The young woman is still very discreet on social networks. She recently opened an Instagram account and, on her publications, it is the beauties of her island that she highlights. Zaya Tombou shares the Mahoran culture by showing the local barbecue called “the wanted” or even by displaying a “love“on the face (traditional beauty adornment) or by revealing the splendid landscapes of its territory.
“The idea of introducing myself was born from the desire to show with pride and passion, the traditions, customs, history of our island this little piece of paradise that is Mayotte, but which is in my opinion very little known. Being Mahoran is for me a pride, and I wish to claim it loud and clear” she explained on her Instagram account.
Miss Mayotte will attempt to win the title of Miss France 2025 next December, during the election broadcast live from Hauts-de-France on TF1.
