On stage from June 24 and until 29, the day on which the patrons of Rome are celebrated. On the occasion of the jubilee year and the solemnity of the saints Pietro and Paolo, the Sistine Theater hosts the show “Pietro e Paolo in Rome”. Written and interpreted by Michele La Ginestra, with Fabio Ferrari, directed by Roberto Marafante, and enriched by the music of Emanuele Friello, the setting takes up the original intent of the representation made in 2024 in front of the Holy Door of the Basilica of San Pietro. And that is to “report Peter and Paul between the streets of Rome”, a city that welcomed them in their last years of life and from which the universal message of Christianity started.
The heart of the show is the story of the everyday life of the two apostles: between ironic jokes about food, on work or on interpersonal relationships, their cultural and character differences emerge, but above all the essence of their holiness as the result of real experiences and occasional errors. In the passages that present a comparison on the faith, their communion of intent and the spiritual inheritance that makes them the pillars of the Catholic Church are then grasped.
The direction of Marafante accompanies acting, singing and choreography, while the essential scenography and the costumes with Caravaggesque tones create a poetic and intimate atmosphere. It is precisely the balance between depth of thought and lightness of dialogue that makes the show accessible to every type of audience, a catechesis that opens up to unexpected reflections.
Other liturgical and cultural initiatives for the solemnity of the patrons are promoted in these days by the vicariates of the diocese of Rome and the Vatican city, as explained by the cardinals Baldo Reina and Mauro Gambetti. At the Basilica of San Paolo outside the walls will also be held on Sunday 29 June, the traditional procession with the chains of the apostle of the people.
