In this city, fines range from 300 to 1,500 euros for this type of unusual costume.
Dressing up for a special occasion and strutting around in the streets like that is now frowned upon. A seaside town has decided to put a stop to people wearing one of these rather unusual costumes, often used as part of challenges between friends. This is particularly the case during stag and hen parties.
Among the activities organized, there is the traditional parade in the streets of the city center. In general, the future groom or bride is disguised and must perform various forfeits. But be careful, not with just any costume. Often, men wear a disguise of a giant penis, a vulva or, they hold in their arms an inflatable doll representing a woman. So far, nothing illegal, except that this accessory that has become essential for extravagant bachelor or bachelorette parties can be inconvenient and cumbersome, especially in narrow streets or those that are very busy with pedestrians.
A problem that a European city has been facing for several years now and which has prompted the municipality to react by putting a strict stop to future brides and grooms. In this municipality, it is now forbidden to strut around the streets with inflatable dolls or penis or vulva costumes. The decree, which was enacted on May 27, specifies that it is no longer permitted to show oneself “on the public highway without clothes or only in underwear or with clothes or accessories representing human genitals or with dolls or other accessories of a sexual nature”, reports one of the local media.
The town in question is a popular seaside resort, which is very popular with tourists and especially with groups who organize bachelor or bachelorette parties: it is Platja d’Aro, located on the Costa Brava, in Spain. If the authorities have taken this decision, it is not without reason. It is above all to combat certain excesses caused during these events and to facilitate cohabitation between local residents and passing tourists. People who do not respect the rules are exposed to fines ranging from 300 to 1,500 euros. Quite a lot to pay for a bachelor or bachelorette party…
