The project will start on June 1st “The brigand in handbike”the latest initiative promoted by Bolt Foundation, accompanying teenagers and young adults with experiences of important pathologies to the rediscovery of their identity beyond the disease, with the support of Barilla as main partner. Protagonist of the company is Salvatore Cristiano Misasi, Young Calabrian affected since childhood spastic tetraparesis and active member of the Bolone Foundation Community: the B.Liver.
On board its electric handbike, Misasi will travel Calabria from North to South, on a symbolic and real journey that aims to break down any physical and cultural obstacle linked to disability. The route unfolds in 12 stages for as many days, covering 545 kilometers from Laino Borgo to Reggio Calabria. The company crosses four natural parks – Pollino, Sila, Serre and Aspromonte – facing A positive difference in height of 10,240 meters and a negative one of 10,510 meters.
The idea was born when Salvatore Cristiano discovers a brochure on a cycle route along the Calabrian ridge. Thus was born “The brigand in handbike”, a name that pays homage to the historical and cultural roots of the region, once the ground of brigands and wolves. Barilla confirms its concrete commitment for social inclusion and the enhancement of diversity, Accompanying Misasi along a path that is much more than a sports company: it is a social journey that transmits powerful message: the disease must not be experienced as an insurmountable limit, but as an experience that can turn into strength and awareness. A concrete example of how it is possible to change perspective, break down prejudices and contribute to the construction of a more fair, sustainable and inclusive society.
This project is only the last one, in chronological order, born from the alliance between Barilla and Bolone Foundation A collaboration that has lasted for 10 years and resulting from a profound bond between the brothers Barilla and Bill Niada, Founder in 2012 of the Milanese non -profit who through the involvement and working inclusion of children who have lived or still live the path of the disease, promotes the social responsibility of individuals, organizations and companies. A synergy that, over time, has transformed the meeting between business and third sector into a shared path of social responsibility, inclusion and enhancement of human potential.
The collaboration – strongly desired by Luca Barillavice -president of the group – is based on a common vision: bringing the human values transmitted by the founder Pietro Barilla inside and outside the company, intertwining them with the initiatives promoted by Fondazione Bold. A concrete example of positive contamination between the production world and civil commitment, which translates into real and lasting projects.
Within the EGR project of Barilla, groups of volunteers operate on specific issues are active. The Egr Thisability group deals with inclusion and opportunities with people who have various forms of disability. Barilla, in collaboration with young journalists de The bolt – the monthly made by the Omonima Foundation – has chosen to entrust the task of Telling with sensitivity and competence, the company’s initiatives through a monthly newsletter.

The boys became totally autonomous in the conception of texts and illustrations by increasing step by step and self -esteem and sharing human relationships with Barilla employees that feed values, respect and friendship in a path of mutual growth. A pilot project that marks a new goal on the path to accessibility and inclusion.
In addition, Barilla, always in collaboration with the Boltone Foundation, started last yearthe experimentation of the first inclusive communication kit designed for visitors to its establishments. This is a completely new initiative, born from the idea of offering an accessible and engaging information experience for people with different skills. The kit, still in the experimental phase, was conceived and developed by the B.Liver – the young people of the Bolt Foundation Community – together with the students of the highly precious artistic high school in Monza, within an articulated multidisciplinary co -co -co -care path. The collective of architects Ghigos also contributed to the project, with Barbara Di Prete and Davide Crippa, In addition to teachers and doctors of the Polytechnic of Milan and the IUAV University of Venice. The goal is clear: testing a new communication model capable of breaking down sensory and cognitive barriers. The kit presents itself as a three -dimensional, multimedia and multisensory object, which integrates audio, video and digital contentdesigned to simultaneously involve people with different sensory and cognitive skills and overcoming the limits of traditional paper supports. The kit thus becomes a tool capable of welcoming everyone, without exclusions, in the symbolic places of Barilla production.
