First purchase of a young couple, this two-room apartment is in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Located on the high floor of a building in the 60s, the good offered a beautiful light, but it was in its juice. In order to make it a comfortable place of life, the main challenge was to improve the acoustic and thermal insulation of the places, among others.
It is the architect DPLG Émilie Melin, co-founder of the Melin Genevrier Architecture agency, with Adrien GENEVER, who was asked from the first visits. Convinced of the potential of the apartment, she accompanied the couple, who became her customers, in the transformation of the accommodation. Their requests were as follows: a sober, elegant, quality interior, with timeless materials and a palette of neutral colors. With a budget of around 2,000 euros per m², three months of work will have been necessary to renovate, what do I say, transform these 50 m²!
Focus on the apartment kitchen, a room that has particularly evolved during the site. At the start, it was set up in a small blind room and therefore did not benefit from any natural light. Placed backwards, it was cramped and neither her vintage yellow furniture, nor her credenza with small blue tiles made the new owners of the premises dream. To transform this dark and partitioned kitchen, Émilie Melin chose to open the space by removing the unnecessary walls that locked the room. The objective: to create a more fluid circulation and bring in light. The kitchen furniture remains visible, but the choice of sober and elegant facades makes it a visual asset rather than a constraint.
The decoration is today based on an association of neutral tones in the upper part and walnut finishes, with elements signed IKEA, in the lower part. The quartz worktop that goes back in credenza is signed Easy Plan, it brings a refined touch to the whole. And what about this travertine floor? If it is not divine!
