The abolition of the two holidays in France is finally abandoned. Here is the calendar for the next holidays as well as the bridges.
The new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that he was giving up the suppression of the two holidays Proposed by François Bayrou, namely Easter Monday and Monday of Pentecost, believing that this measure penalized workers and that we had to “spare those who work”. He added that the decision to return to this reform would require “finding other sources of funding” to cover the savings planned for the 2026 budget. Here are the Dates for the next holidays in France for the year 2025 and 2026.
Calendar for the next holidays in 2025:
- Toussaint: Saturday 1ᵉʳ November
- Armistice of 1918: Tuesday, November 11
- Christmas: Thursday December 25
Consequently, public holidays taking place mainly during the week, you can have much more vacation than expected by skillfully posing your holidays. In November, you can have 9 days of vacation by posing on Monday 10, Wednesday 12, Thursday 13 and Friday 14 November, November 11 falling on Tuesday. Finally, during the last month of the year, you can also have 9 days off by posing 22, 23, December 24 and 26, the 25th having taken place on a Thursday.
Public holiday calendar in 2026
If the two holidays cited by the Prime Minister were to be deleted, there would be only nine public holidays on the week, since next year, the Assumption of August 15 falls on a Saturday and the day of All Saints’ Day which takes place on November 1 falls on a Sunday. Those who want to take advantage of prolonged weekends will therefore be able to fall back on the following dates:
- New Year’s Day: Thursday January 1, 2026
- Easter Monday: Monday April 6 (if it is not deleted)
- Labor Day: Friday 1ᵉʳ May
- Victory 1945: Friday May 8 (if it is not deleted)
- Ascension Day: Thursday May 14
- Pentecost Monday: Monday May 25
- National Day: Tuesday July 14
- Assumption: Saturday August 15
- Toussaint: Sunday 1ᵉʳ November
- Armistice 1918: Wednesday 11 November
- Christmas: Friday December 25
Thus, by targeting the holidays in the middle of the week and by intelligently posing a few days of rest around, it is still possible to maximize your holiday periods. Whether for long weekends or real cuts, a good reading of the calendar remains your best ally to make the most of your free time.
