Officially inaugurated on 21 January 2025, on the anniversary of the birth of Saint Giuseppe Allamano, “Casa Allamano” presents itself as an innovative exhibition space that celebrates the life and mission of the founder of the Consolata Missionaries. The birthplace of Castelnuovo Don Bosco, after important renovation and set-up works, today offers an immersive multimedia journey capable of involving visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The project, promoted by the European Region of the Istituto Missioni Consolata and the Fondazione Missioni Consolata Onlus, was managed by the Turin company Mediacor, specialized in narrative installations. Thanks to advanced technologies and a faithful reconstruction, “Casa Allamano” allows visitors to immerse themselves in the personal history and missionary vocation of the Piedmontese saint, canonized on 20 October 2024.
A path between tradition and innovation
The journey begins on the ground floor, in the stable of the house, now transformed into a chapel, where the narrative voice of San Giuseppe Allamano – played by the well-known voice actor Danilo Bruni – welcomes visitors. The story continues in the kitchen, with a projection that reconstructs the daily life of Castelnuovo Don Bosco in the mid-nineteenth century. On the first floor, the room where Giuseppe Allamano was born on 21 January 1851 hosts an evocative projection that tells the story of his family. In the adjacent room, the key figures of his education are explored, such as the teacher Savio, while an interactive table illustrates the educational path that led him to the Oratory of Valdocco and the diocesan seminary of Turin. The second floor offers a particularly evocative experience: a floor projection tells of Allamano’s meeting with other figures of sanctity from Castelnuovo, including Giuseppe Cafasso, Giovanni Bosco and Domenico Savio. In the final room, a large screen guides visitors through the stages of the foundation of the Consolata Missionaries, showing images that range from the Piedmont hills to the African savannahs, up to the urban suburbs of the South of the world. The exhibition, conceived to be accessible to all, it also includes a Virtual Tour that will allow you to visit “Casa Allamano” remotely. All contents will soon be available in multiple languages, making the route accessible to international visitors.
A choral work
The project, coordinated by Simona Borello and Paolo Pellegrini, saw the collaboration of numerous professionals: the texts were written by Anna Peiretti, the projections curated by Luca Olivieri, while the graphic project was signed by Danilo Manassero. The multimedia technologies, provided by Acuson, integrate perfectly with the prints made by Eurocolor, offering a high-quality immersive experience. Thanks to the contribution of the Photographic Archive of the Missioni Consolata Institute and the La Cabalesta OdV Association, “Casa Allamano” is not just a museum, but a place of memory and inspiration, capable of uniting past and present in a story that speaks to anyone who has the desire to know the extraordinary figure of San Giuseppe Allamano.
