If most of the objects purchased in flea market or unearthed on the net are not worth much, others, rarer or more rated, can bring in a beautiful sum, even a real jackpot!
According to an eBay X Ifop study, 36 % of French people are active collectors. When young people enjoy collecting playing and figurines, their elders prefer stamps and advertising objects. And among all these articles created by brands or companies for promotional purposes, there may be money to be made.
Whether distributed for free or sold, these advertising objects from another time are no longer just marketing supports, they have become, over the years, real decorative parts, sometimes sought after by vintage lovers and hunters . And they are able to buy them back by putting the price. However, all advertising items are not worth gold: recent products (pens, keychain, tote bags) or damaged are little. On the other hand, some vintage parts can report big, very large.
So what objects deserve your attention? Here are those who can really bring money: bar and bistro objects, what are the Carafes Ricard, Suze or Pernod are sold between 30 and 150 euros, depending on their seniority, and the screen printing of major brands (Orangina, Pelform …) which are less rare, are still appreciated. The metal boxes The laughing cow, Suchard or Banania from the 1950s and 60s can reach 50 to 200 euros, the older they are and in good condition, the more their price will climb.
The enameled plates and old signs of major brands like Michelin, Coca-Cola, Byrrh or Ricard, are very popular too. A Michelin plaque from the 1920s can exceed 1,000 euros. The more it is in good condition, with bright colors and little rust, the more value it has. But the object to be found in your attic or elsewhere, remains the original advertising poster signed by a large illustrator (like Raymond Savignac). Indeed, this collector can be sold between 200 and several thousand euros.
Before buying or reselling, always check the object rating on eBay or Delcampe. Bet on rare parts, limited editions and impeccable condition. And above all … Open the eye, a treasure may be hiding in your home and at the local flea market!
