After 50 years, the skin changes: loss of elasticity, increased drought, marked wrinkles … So many signs that can be attenuated. But what are the real recommendations of dermatologists? Three experts decipher the best gestures to adopt.

The effects of time on the skin are inevitable, but they are not irreversible. Over the years, the production of collagen and elastin decreases, resulting in a loss of firmness. Added to this is a reduction in natural hydration, pigment spots and increased sensitivity to external aggressions such as pollution or UV. “Skin relaxation, transparency and sagging skin are the main visible signs of aging”explains Doctor Laftah, dermatologist. Fortunately, there are certain assets intended to correct these issues.

Among the essentials, the retinoids come first. These vitamin A derivatives stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, thus reducing wrinkles and fine lines while improving the texture of the skin. “Retinol is one of the most documented assets in dermatology for its effects on skin aging”confirms Doctor Rollett. However, it must be gradually introduced into your routine and always accompanied by daily sun protection. Another flagship active, niacinamide, or vitamin B3. It acts on the elasticity of the skin, improves its hydration, reduces spots and reduces redness thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. A precious asset for mature skin. “Niacinamide is ideal for strengthening the skin barrier and preventing dehydration”specifies Doctor Rashid. Care acids, including glycolic acid and Azélaic acid, are also recommended. The first gently exfoliates the skin and promotes cell renewal, thus offering a brighter and homogeneous complexion. The second has anti-inflammatory properties and helps reduce hyperpigmentation.

Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, is essential to maintain good hydration and strengthen the skin barrier. “With age, the skin loses its ability to retain water. Hyaluronic acid compensates for this loss and brings an immediate plump effect”explains Doctor Rashid. Finally, vitamin C is one of the essential assets. Powerful antioxidant, it fights oxidative stress, boosts collagen production and illuminates the complexion.

So what is the best anti-aging routine according to dermatologists? Start with a soft cleaning, respecting your skin barrier. Then apply a vitamin C serum to protect your skin and illuminate your complexion. Hydration must also be provided by a care combining hyaluronic and ceramid acid, strengthening your skin barrier. A cream enriched in niacinamide will then provide flexibility and uniformity to your skin. Finally, remember to apply a SPF 50 to prevent the effects of UV. In the evening, it is advisable to apply a retinol serum followed by a nourishing night cream. By adopting these key gestures, it is the promise of bright and healthy skin, even after 50 years.
