Posting a pet involves certain responsibilities. These dog owners are required to take steps at the town hall.
Certain breeds of dogs are considered more dangerous than others. If we are used to seeing these pets walk on a leash or with a muzzle, it reassures. But owners of this type of dog must respect other very specific rules, at the risk of being sanctioned by the police.
First of all, the regulations concerning dangerous dogs prohibit the acquisition of first category dogs since January 6, 1999, namely attack dogs “not registered in the genealogical book recognized by the Ministry in charge of Agriculture” , specifies the government which adds that they must be sterilized. The American Staffordshire Terrier (formerly Staffordshire Terrier) dogs, also called “Pit-Bulls” are concerned, Mastiff’s dogs, also called “Boerbulls” as well as TOSA dogs.
Regarding category 2 dogs assimilated to childcare and defense dogs, such as the Staffordshire Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler and Tosa, they can be adopted provided that the master follows a training of a day of 7 hours of 7 hours on education, dog behavior as well as prevention and risks of accidents. This day makes it possible to issue the owner with a certificate of aptitude. Dogs aged 8 months to one year must then be the subject of a behavioral assessment which must be renewed in the following years according to the estimated level of dangerousness. Finally, last step: the owner is required to apply for a detention permit from the town hall of his home.
In the event of control by the police, “the lack of presentation by the owner of the detention permit or any other proof is punished with a fine of up to 450 euros”, specifies the service of the State. In the absence of the detention permit, the fine can amount to 750 euros. If the situation is not regularized, the owner then risks up to 3,750 euros fine and three months in prison, with the prohibition to hold an animal (temporarily or definitively depending on the case).
Recall that dangerous dog owners must subscribe to civil liability insurance which makes it possible to cover any damage that the dog could cause to third parties, including family members. The fine can reach 450 euros in the absence of this insurance.
