There’s something new from Dyson and it’s not a vacuum cleaner! The brand unveils an innovative tool that radically changes from the traditional mop.
While many brands, including Dyson, rely on a single device that takes care of vacuuming and washing floors, the vacuum cleaner specialist surprises with a brand new product that focuses on washing. No complex engine, no air filter, but always impeccable design and unrivaled handling. The promise of PencilWash: transform the chore of mopping and eliminate the traditional, impractical bucket. The editorial staff undertook a cleaning session to discover this new feature.
One thing is certain, neither my colleagues nor I enjoy carrying a bucket around the house, not to mention wet hands or the unsavory mop. And many accessories now exist to limit the inconvenience: one of us uses a “dry hand” bucket from Starwax, others have adopted the Wetjet broom from Swiffer and as for me, I only swear by vacuum cleaners. You will have understood, Dyson has every reason to think that the mop has had its day.
To replace it, they brought together the best of a classic broom and a vacuum cleaner. Concretely, the device consists of a very thin handle with a self-propelled head similar to that of a vacuum cleaner which moistens the floor using a microfiber roller. It washes the floor and collects the dirty water in a separate tank which only has to be emptied at the end of cleaning. The operation is then intended to be simpler and more comfortable. Is she? The answer is yes, but it comes at a price.
Upon receipt of the device, nothing could be easier than assembling it and, after a few hours of charging on its designer base, it is ready for use. I fill the tank with water and add a non-foaming cleaning product (Dyson also offers its own range) and off we go. The device is very light and its handling is a bit disconcerting when you are used to a vacuum cleaner. The self-propelled brush makes the action effortless and I can easily get between obstacles, even under furniture. The water is distributed gradually and I don’t have to worry about the floor being too wet or not enough, and of course no rinsing the mop to do. The operation is done quickly and the water tank is enough to do the four rooms I was aiming for, as is the battery charge. The only downside: you will still have to go through the unpleasant step of cleaning the tank and the brush after each use and it will be necessary to dry the latter between two uses.
If you already have a good vacuum cleaner, this new device will complete your range provided you pay 349 euros. But if in addition to simplifying the chore of washing you also want to save time, I would advise investing directly in a vacuum cleaner.
