From January 2025, the large family card will be much easier to obtain for the 1.7 million households who are entitled to it in France. Here is the practical information and the list of the main partners to know.
The large family card is a system which offers reductions and advantages to families with at least three children under 18 years old. Valid among others on transport networks such as SNCF, it allows you to benefit from reduced rates of up to 75% reduction. It also gives access to discounts in many brands. Created to support large families in their daily lives, it is accessible on request, with a new simplified approach, and is valid for three years. After which it must be renewed.
Who can benefit from the large family card?
The large family card is aimed at households with at least three dependent children, including a minor, without income conditions. Blended families can also claim this, including the children of each parent, provided they have a judgment determining their residence with them. A simulator on carte-familles-nombreuses.gouv.fr makes it easy to check your eligibility.
From January 2025, it will be much easier to apply for the large family card. Families will be able to link their CAF account to quickly retrieve their data, whether for children or adults, and thus make their request. This is done directly online on the site carte-familles-nombreuses.gouv.fr for around 19 euros in fees. The card will now be available within 24-48 hours in digital version or in paper format, received within three weeks by mail. The documents to be provided are as follows:
- A copy of each parent’s national identity card (or the TSE European residence permit issued by France)
- A recent identity photo of each member of the family,
- A photocopy of the family record book (or an extract of the birth certificate of each of the applicants, minors and adults)
- The household tax notice.
What are the advantages of the large family card?
The main advantage of the large family card is the reduction on SNCF train tickets: 30% for three children, 40% for four, 50% for five, and up to 75% for six or more. Valid in 1ʳᵉ and 2nd class, the discount is “always calculated on the standard leisure fare or normal 2nd class fare”underlines the site service-public.fr.
In Île-de-France, the large family card offers a 50% reduction on T+ RATP tickets and on origin-destination tickets for families with at least three minor children or five dependent adult children.
Who accepts the large family card?
The large family card entitles you to reductions from various partners, such as:
- Education, awakening: reductions at Berceaumagique, Acadomia, GoStudent, Anacours, Kinougarde, etc.
- Culture, leisure: reduced rates for the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, PortAventura World, Puy du Fou, Futuroscope park, in certain cinemas, swimming pools and Parisian museums, etc.
- Sport: discounted rates at Intersport Rent, Water Glisse Passion, Laser World, AccroCamp, etc.
- Hospitality, holidays: discounts for rentals at Camping and co, Appart’City, VVF Villages stays, Vacansoleil, etc.
- Catering: 10% reduction in Flunch restaurants, at Un Goût d’ici and free children’s menu at Buffalo Grill (for an adult meal purchased).

The large family card can be renewed at the end of its validity period, which is three years. You will receive an email telling you what to do. The file to complete remains similar, but it should be noted that this is a renewal and not a first request. The request cannot be made more than three months before the end of validity. In the event of loss or theft, contact the center by telephone or email and make a new request at your expense.
