The goal is clear and above all looks on the long term. Year after year, by 2030, Edison is determined to carry on its ambitious energy transition plan. Decarbonisation, development of renewable sources, flexibility, Value services for customers and gas and green gas portfolio for national energy security: all crucial aspects for which the group has invested, only in the last two years, 1.2 billion euros. Among the most significant goals achieved in this two -year period, the reduction of carbon donation of 15% and the value of purchases for over 1.2 billion from about 3 thousand suppliers, of which 97% Italians. But in addition to this also 800 new hires within the company and the involvement of 100 schools and over 3,000 students in orientation and training programs of the new generations.
Edison presented projects and results in a conference entitled “Future in progress”, which was held this morning at the Milan company headquarters to the former Tabacchi manufacture. «The results show the concreteness of our responsible action and the consistency between the industrial strategy and the objectives ESG. In the last 5 years, thanks to the progressive transformation of the industrial portfolio, we have brought the group to solid financial, operational and ESG results, consolidating our leadership position in the energy transition in the country “, he explained Nicola Monti CEO of Edison. “In particular, 2024 ended with an approach to our strategic objectives to 2030, the date by which we will invest up to 10 billion euros: an Ebitda composed of 55% from renewable activities, flexibility, customers and services and a reduction in carbon donation of 15%. The excellent results arise from Edison’s ability to combine sustainability and operational performance, productivity and ethics, growth and attention to the environment and people, virtuously, Starting from the protection of their safety and the care of their well -being and their needs in the workplace. And they are the result of a precious collaboration with the stakeholder ecosystem with which we build a future of sustainable energy every day ».
Specifically decarbonization is the primary objective of the Edison Group. A process started back in 2006: in 19 years the company reduced its emissive profile by over 75%. “By 2030, it will aim to have 40% of decarbonized energy, and then reaches 90% in 2040,” he underlined Barbara TerenghiEdison’s Chief Sustainability Officer. There are several renewable solutions on which the group works. From the off-shore helico with the construction of more technological systems to electric storage (pumps and drums), up to nuclear power and green gas (hydrogen and biomethane).
«In 2024 Edison opened construction sites for new renewable capacity for over 400 MW and entered a project of offshore floating wind farm of about 1 GW. Between 2023 and 2024 we put 1.5 GW of highly flexible capacity in operation, thanks to two new latest generation thermoelectric plants. On the other hand, we know how to be a topic that frightens, but it is a main solution to get to decarbonisation. And in any case in the specific case we are talking about 10%, a maximum of 20% of our overall production “, has still specified the Ad Monti.
As for investments for the energy transition, Edison also focuses on the development of individual Italian territories. 50% of the investments involve South-Italia, which from the post-plays have had a double growth compared to the rest of the country as regards the set of energy sources, customers and services. In general, in 2024, 67% of the community in which Edison Opera participated in initiatives dedicated to them as the possibility of visiting their own hydroelectric and wind sites on the occasion of the Fai days or the call “We build the future” with which the company supports the associations of the Third Sector and Sports of Valcamonica and Val Caffaro, seats of numerous hydroelectric systems of the group.
In addition, the six initiatives to combat energy poverty with which Edison has today supported 1,500 families. The goal to 2030 is that the totality of the communities in which large generation systems reside is affected by territorial enhancement projects.
