New prestigious assignment for Elena Beccalli, rector of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. Friday was elected to Lovanio president of the European Federation of European Catholic Universities (Fuce)the European section of the “International Federation of Catholic University” (IFCU). Professor Beccalli will guide the academic network that brings together 62 Catholic universities, of which 56 present in 17 European countries and 6 in Lebanon.
It happens to Professor Michael Mullaney, President of the Saint Patrick’s College of Maynooth, Ireland. Elena Beccalli is the Italian first and also the first woman to hold the assignment, who will last three years.
La Fuce, born in 1991 and based in France at the Catholic University of Lyonconstitutes an important point of reference for higher education and scientific research in the European and international educational context.
Professor Beccalli in her strategic program indicated some priorities to consolidate the presence of the Fuce in Europe and in the world. Among these, strengthen the partnerships and strategic alliances between the European Catholic universities; promote double -title programs; Establish mobility programs for teachers, young researchers and technical-administrative staff; develop joint research programs, periodically proposing projects focused on the main issues of our time.
The goal is, in fact, to ensure that Catholic universities can keep their voice alive and actively contribute to revitalizing European identity and its roots. This will allow to reaffirm the central role of education and culture, which has always been the cornerstone of European civilization. According to the rector of the Catholic University, this process, based on the dialogue and enhancement of diversity between the universities of the Federation, could give impulse to projects capable of generating benefits internal to the Federation but also external for institutions and companies. “If adequately recognized and supported within EU policies, Catholic universities can strengthen the idea of Europe and contribute to realizing it concretely, restoring the soul of the Union“, Said the furd neoprescent.

It is part of the group of experts on socially responsible investments of the Italian Episcopal Conference. On 1 November 2024 he was appointed by Pope Francis Consultor of the Dicastery for culture and education. He was coordinator of the path on the document Oeconomicae et pecuniary and quaestionespromoted by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Milan.
