Among all the perfumes on the market, there is one that brings back bad memories to Elodie Gossuin.
The smells are fascinating. They are capable of triggering in us an old, intense and emotionally charged memory with just a few scents. Indeed, the sense of smell has privileged access to the memory centers of the brain. A neurological architecture which explains this link between scent and vestige of the past. If certain perfumes take us back to beautiful moments shared with loved ones, have the gift of soothing us or provoking a feeling of nostalgia, others on the contrary remind us of a part of our life that we would prefer to forget… And it is not Elodie Gossuin who would say the opposite!
In November, we had the opportunity to meet the former Miss France on the occasion of the launch of her household linen collection, in collaboration with the Tissaia brand. The ideal time to talk beauty with the star, and more particularly perfumes. Very sensitive to the world of scents, she admits that some are truly her Madeleines de Proust. “There are some that are very comforting, especially when I come home to my parents. In the bathroom, it always smells a little like lavender water, Shalimar and hairspray”she confides. The creation of the Guerlain house inevitably reminded him of his mother. “It’s very special. Smells are so associated with people. In fact, it’s unique. Shalimar, I revere it because it’s my mother.”
Conversely, there is a perfume that Elodie Gossuin is not so fond of: Fahrenheit, by Dior. And for good reason, the juice takes her back to another era of her life: “When I smell it, it reminds me of an ex so I hate that smell. It’s funny, all these little memories. But that’s what smells are, they’re magical.”
If the wake of an ex can still make you grimace, the presenter today prefers to concentrate on fragrances that give her a feeling of strength or serenity. Because after all, choosing your perfume is also deciding the memory you leave behind. For its part, it will be “rose water or orange blossom.”
