Did you know? Mirrors in elevators have real use! And if they are installed, it is not (only) so that we can get a makeover …
Have you ever wondered why almost all elevators were equipped with a mirror? It is obviously not for budding influencers to take selfie or so that those with a gallant appointment can move before. There are several reasons why these mirrors are placed …
Looking in the ice allows you to pass time during an elevator route which can sometimes drag on, depending on the number of floors of a building. It is also for this reason that we often hear what is commonly called “elevator music”, in order to make the experience more pleasant. But the mirrors installed in the elevators are not used to pass the time!
Any connoisseur in decoration knows that adding a mirror in a room gives the impression of significantly increasing the size. He can therefore somewhat relieve claustrophobes, which often feel quickly narrow in an elevator.
But it is especially for security reasons that we find ice cream in these devices! Thus, an ill -intentioned individual will think twice before trying to steal something from you in an elevator, if he knows that the mirror can unmask it more easily. Moreover, in the event of assault, the victim could see the face of his attacker and thus identify him more easily if the question arises. In addition, if we believe the so -called “Hawthorne effect” theory, a sociological experience carried out in the 1920s, people act differently when they feel observed, even if they are alone and that a simple mirror is before them. They would therefore be less likely to vandalize the place!
Finally, mirrors have a completely different use for people with disabilities: they allow those who move in a wheelchair to maneuver more easily and place themselves without worry in the elevator by being able to check their movements in the ice. The mirrors therefore have several functions in an elevator … and if they allow to pass time by redoing a beauty on the journey, it is a bonus!
