“En Garde, prêt, allez!”. The classic sequence of commands in French, used in fencing to kick off the assaults, will resonate this afternoon in Piazza della Rotonda, in the heart of Rome, for the 15th edition of A Found of Sword-The fencing marathon-Memorial Enzo Musumeci Greco organized by the Museo-Academia d’Armi Musumeci Greek Army House.
The Academy, born in 1878, is one of the oldest and most prestigious fencing schools, belonging to the oldest family of shielders in the world, which has always been hosted in an ancient fairy residence of the fifteenth century, which belonged to the bishop Diego de Valdes, chamberlain of Pope Alexander VI Borgia (1492-1503).
The non -competitive marathon of assaults, on the platforms set up outdoors, combines athletes, enthusiasts and simple curious in the name of sport, aggregation and inclusion. Over 4 hours, the performance of athletes and champions of the Olympic, Paralympic and blind fencing is expected.
In 2011 the Academy launched the “Senior -Without Fencing” projectreserved for disabled athletes, in wheelchairs, down, autistic, blind, partially sighted, aged 5 and up, without age limits. From the start, the initiative has achieved great success, growing from year to year.
The conduct of the event on Saturday 13 September will be entrusted to the Maestro Renzo Musumeci Greco (president of the Academy) and a legend of Italian sport: Novel CalligarisArtistic director of the House Museum-Academy of arms Musumeci Greco. The event will also be attended by the Minister for Sport and Young Andrea Abadi.
The academy in 2024 was included among the Italian excellence (not only of sport) by the Ministry of Companies and Made in Italy.
