Among the flags waved angrily in Los Angeles, San Francisco and several large cities of California, one dominates all: the Mexican one. Green, white and red, with L’Aquila that hoses the snake, has become the symbol of protests against the ICE, the federal agency for immigration, accused of conducting aggressive raids against alleged irregular migrants. To manifest not only foreigners: many, born in the US from Mexican families, wave that flag as a sign of identity and solidarity, without feeling any contradiction with their American citizenship.
The protests exploded after the ICE searched several shops and warehouses, arresting 45 people. The most heated clashes in Paramount and Compton: slogans, barricades, a fire -burned car. Trump replied with 2000 agents of the National Guard. A move called “provocative” by the Californian governor Gavin Newsom.
Among the demonstrators there are also hybrid flags, who blend Mexican and US symbols, or banner of El Salvador and even Burkina Faso, to represent the entire Ispano-African diaspora.
While choirs and smoke bombs rise in the streets, yet another surreal show is consumed in the rooms of power: Trump and Musk publicly zone on the Epstein Files and the hypothesis of expelled Musk, South African citizen, but owner of companies that feed the American economy. The same country that, in the meantime, expel those who send it forward in silence.
