With the boom in the second hand, old furniture is popular, far ahead of the standardized productions of major brands. This year, a very specific piece of furniture is breaking in all flea markets.
Used furniture, often better made than those of today, appeal to their robustness and their unique patina. “People are looking for pieces with character, which tell a story”, explains Élodie Martin, specialist in vintage furniture. Noble materials such as solid wood, leather or brass are popular for their quality and longevity. In addition to being more ecological, they bring a soul to modern interiors, generally standardized by standardized furniture.
In recent years, some parts have been standing particularly. The sofas of the 1970s, cannant buffets or rattan armchairs are among the big favorites of hunters. But in 2025, a new trend emerged, carried by the growing attraction for brutalist architecture and mineral materials. “We observe a strong demand for stone, concrete or mineral material parts, which bring an appearance that is both sculptural and timeless to the interiors”, Specifies Andrea Jenkins, vintage reseller and creator of All Put Together.
“They recall the European aesthetics of the old world, with a touch of modernity”, she continues. Among them, the pedestal tables, marble convenients, but also and above all the travertine bass tables, are experiencing a renewed spectacular interest. In addition to being aesthetic, these furniture adapts perfectly to contemporary interiors, creating interesting contrasts with warmer elements such as wood or velvet.
But beware, these pieces are not always easy to acquire. “Stone furniture can be very heavy, it is better to be accompanied or check the possibilities of transport before buying”, advises the specialist. In addition, their rarity on the market increases prices. The most popular models leave in a few minutes from their sale, so stay on the lookout!
