A Roman bishop arrives in the diocese that also belonged to Monsignor Luigi Bettazzi. Monsignor Daniele Salera, until now auxiliary bishop of the Northern sector of the diocese of Rome and responsible for the Christian formation sector as well as head of the secretariat for the Jubilee, moves to Piedmont. Born in Rome on 23 July 1970, trained in scouting, Monsignor Salera completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary. And he was ordained a priest on 21 April 2002. He graduated in Sociology from La Sapienza University of Rome and obtained a license in Spiritual Theology. Already parish priest of the historic parish of San Frumenzio, in Prati, and ecclesiastical assistant in the Centro Urbis area of Agesci, the new bishop of Ivrea has held various roles in the diocese. Cardinal Reina, in thanking him, praised his “generosity, dedication, attention to others”.
For his part, the bishop, in accepting the nomination, remembered the other priests of the Northern sector «for the example of priestly life that you have offered me, for the hectic life that you face with a smile and disenchantment, for the brotherhood that I have heard in our meetings”, the men and women religious, the deacons, the lay people and “those pastoral workers from whom I received testimony of enthusiasm and spirit of sacrifice”. And he turned a thought to his new diocese: «I will have “Ivrea the Beautiful” as my wife», he commented, «with its red towers, its valleys, its lakes, the Graian and Pennine Alps, the refuges and sanctuaries of mountain, the Piedmontese side of the Gran Paradiso, yes… definitely a bride who brings with her a gift full of consolation and prophecies that come true!”.
