Telling the present with courage, deciphering the contradictions of the contemporary world. This is the mission of 15th edition of FrontDoc -International Frontier Film Festival, which will animate Aosta from 8 to 15 November. For a week, the Aosta Valley capital will become a great center for discussion on real cinema, with a program that counts over 40 screenings, between Italian and international previews, special events and meetings. The vocation of the festival is to propose documentary cinema, thanks to which crucial themes such as post-truth, the relationship between man and technology, new forms of social control and the historical themes of the event, such as conflicts, migrations and social injustices, will be explored.
The beating heart of the event will be the International Competitionwhich will see the participation of 27 films, divided into 3 categories: Feature Films, Short Films, and F(r)iction, the novelty of this edition dedicated to “frontier” works between fiction and animation. The week will open with a concert by Maura Susanna, a point of reference for Aosta Valley music. The films that will be proposed touch on themes dear to our time, questioning it. Among these, they stand out works on post-truthsuch as POST TRUTH by Alkan Avcıoğlu (Turkey, 2025), the first film made entirely with artificial intelligence, and titles that address conflicts, such as Mr. Nobody Against Putin (Denmark, 2025). He will be the guest of honor of the 2025 edition Claire Simonone of the most original voices of European documentary. The director will present, on Tuesday 11 November (8.30 pm), her new film Writing Life – Annie Ernaux told by students (France, 2025). The work, filmed in schools, gives voice to young people who are dealing with the legacy of the Nobel Prize-winning writer. «After fifteen years, the concept of frontier remains at the center of our research. Today we understand it as a fluid territory, in which the very concept of reality is questioned by new technologies. FrontDoc was created to explore these unstable margins of reality”, say the artistic directors Nora Demarchi and Gian Luca Rossi. An agenda full of unmissable events marks the week.
