Garou, who was revealed to the general public in the role of Quasimodo in the musical comedy “Notre-Dame de Paris”, will he one day reprise this cult role on stage? The 53-year-old singer responded candidly.

Garou, who can be found in the show A Sunday in the countryside with Sylvie Testud and Eric Dupond-Moretti this November 9, was revealed to the general public thanks to his role as Quasimodo in the musical Notre-Dame of Paris. More than 25 years later, is the Quebec singer ready to once again slip into the skin of this character who made him known?

Garou, ready to play Quasimodo again on stage? “I find it beautiful…”

The former coach of The Voice performed on stage in Quebec during the evening “Notre-Dame de Paris – the 25th anniversary event“, last August, alongside Daniel Lavoie, Patrick Fiori, Hélène Ségara and Julie Zenatti to celebrate this musical and cover its hits.

But while the Notre-Dame de Paris show will be performed again in France, at the Palais des Congrès, from December 19, 2025 to January 4, 2026, would the Quebecer be up for playing the character of Quasimodo on stage again? If he is well aware that this show represents “the greatest classic musical comedy of the French-speaking world“, he does not wish to resume his role and considers that this page has been turned for him. “But I find it beautiful that it continues in many countries and in many languages“, he confided to the Montreal Journal a few months ago.

“I couldn’t see myself doing that again. I’m proud to have done it and it completely transformed me, but over the years, everything I’ve done has allowed me to transform myself and get to who I am today. So I can just be proud of the journey, even if I’m not the one looking in the rearview mirror“, he also confided to the Canadian media 7 Days on the subject.

Garou, “traumatized” by his role in Notre-Dame de Paris: “We no longer saw…”

When the musical enjoyed its resounding success in 1998, Garou was able to go unnoticed for some time: “People believed that the guy behind Quasimodo had a real disability and I liked that, going incognito“But quickly, the singer became a real star. A status that frightened him.”In Notre-Dame, I played Quasimodo on stage, who seeks to be loved and, some evenings, it screamed ‘Garouuu’. We no longer saw the character I played. It was a trauma from the start, the starification“, he recalled in The Parisian.

At the time, his character had also caused him some minor body problems: “I cowered so much to play this character that I have physical problems today“. Despite everything, this period remains a very good memory for Pierre Garand, his real name.
