A material with a dated image, Formica no longer has its place in kitchens. Style lesson with this one, which has abandoned it in favor of a more modern combo, between light wood and whiteness.
As it was, it took a lot of imagination to imagine yourself in this apartment located in Issy-les-Moulineaux. During her first visit, interior designer and decorator Charlotte Gille, from the Happy Pog agency, discovers a 70 m² apartment without charm, but that doesn’t scare her, she likes challenges. The need for ttransforming the premises into a real T5 that is pleasant to live in quickly becomes obvious. To do this, she let her creativity speak and rethought every square meter. Completely revised in 6 months of work and around 82,000 euros, excluding furniture and household appliances, the spaces are also functional as well as harmonious.
On the kitchen side, there was also work! For years, Formica dominated French kitchens. It seemed straight out of the 70s, with its anise green Formica facades and its splashback, made up of small khaki green tiles with a retro atmosphere. Only the white worktop contrasted with the dark brown cooking plates, typical of a bygone era.
The furniture was visually heavy and the storage rose to the ceiling, with pale green doors and open shelves loaded with dishes. The built-in appliances, in stainless steel and black, stood out from the rest. The floor, also tiled in beige tones, was once again reminiscent of the kitchens of yesteryear. The room lacked natural light, dark colors and dated materials overwhelmed the space. The whole thing needed a facelift to gain clarity, modernity and functionality.
Good news: the kitchen already had a window with a base, which let in lots of light from the interior courtyard. To strengthen it, the owners chose a white kitchen, with furniture and full height columns by IKEA. The solid oak worktop (Leroy Merlin) adds a warm touch. The tiled floor, inspired by cement tiles, completes the whole. Same spirit for the brass details, from the taps to the door knobs.
The challenge is met. Memories of lime green Formica are nothing more than a distant anecdote. In this completely redesigned apartment, the kitchen is no longer a room that we put up with, but a space that we proudly display. A true renaissance where each square meter, once crushed by the past, finally breathes in the present.
