A new partnership is born in the passenger transport sector. The announcement was made on board the Cruise Barcelona ferry in the port of Civitavecchia by Grimaldi Lines, the brand with which the Grimaldi Group operates maritime connections in the Mediterranean Sea, and Trenitalia, the lead company of the Passenger Hub of the FS Group.
The fulcrum of this collaboration is the “train + ship” ticket, which can be purchased in a single solution through all Trenitalia sales channels: a new opportunity, which offers travelers the possibility of reaching the holiday destination comfortably and on board sustainable transport.
“This is a partnership strongly desired by the Grimaldi Group and Trenitalia, with the aim of creating a combined transport network and promoting widespread and sustainable collective mobility,” he declared Guido Grimaldi, Corporate Short Sea Shipping Commercial Director of Grimaldi Group. “Intermodality is also strategic today for the passenger sector, precisely with a view to greater integration of mobility services and strong attention to the issue of sustainability,” he added.
“We are proud of the partnership with Grimaldi Lines, which will offer travelers the opportunity to plan their trip to the most beautiful places in Sardinia and Sicily even more easily, with a view to experiencing tourism in an accessible, flexible and sustainable way” , he declares Maria Annunziata GiaconiaDirector of Regional Business and Intermodal Development of Trenitalia.
The combined ticket can be purchased immediately, for departures from 1 June onwards and its purchase method is really simple and fast. It is available on Sardinia and Sicily destinations and combines Trenitalia trains with the maritime connections Civitavecchia-Olbia, Civitavecchia-Porto Torres, Civitavecchia-Cagliari, Civitavecchia-Arbatax, Naples-Cagliari, Naples-Palermo and vice versa. It will also soon be available for the Livorno-Olbia and Livorno-Palermo connections.
Grimaldi Lines operates in the Mediterranean Sea with a network of 20 maritime connections. Its fleet is made up of cruise ferries and latest generation ferries, with high standards of hospitality and particular attention to environmental sustainability. The Grimaldi Group, in fact, has always been at the forefront in reducing polluting emissions at sea and in the atmosphere, achieved thanks to continuous research into advanced sustainable technologies.
Intermodality is increasingly the protagonist of Trenitalia’s offer, placing the customer at the center of a railway offer enriched by other means of transport. To date, Trenitalia offers direct rail connections or with pedestrian routes to 19 ports throughout Italy.
