A combination of serums and a particular method on the mouth: this is Gwyneth Paltrow’s anti-aging combo for a good night’s sleep. Confidences.
Gwyneth Paltrow recently gave an interview to the site Airmailwhere she detailed the steps of her evening routine. These include luxury items such as a $60,000 mattress, but also a practice that is controversial to say the least: taping one’s mouth before sleeping.
The actress and founder of the wellness brand Goop explained: “I sleep with tape on my mouth”. She refers to “mouth taping”, a technique consisting of closing one’s mouth with tape overnight. According to her, this would allow for a better quality of sleep thanks to deeper nasal breathing. Paltrow also claims that this method has anti-aging benefits, adding: “This prevents the skin from creating creases and thus helps reduce wrinkles around the mouth”.
However, this practice, although praised by some celebrities, can carry potential health risks. Experts warn against mouth tapping, particularly in people with respiratory problems such as sleep apnea, nasal congestion or allergies. Blocking breathing through your mouth could make these conditions worse and cause unwanted or even dangerous effects.
While Gwyneth Paltrow continues to promote sometimes original habits, it is important to emphasize that any new beauty or health method should be adopted with caution and, ideally, after consulting a health professional.
