Do you know that a serial killer participated in a game show presented by Nagui, without arousing suspicion? A case that has caused ink to flow…
Did you know? A repeat serial killer, who has evaded the authorities all his life, managed to participate in one of the flagship games of France 2, presented by Nagui at the time, Everyone wants to take their place. The journalists of Marianne have managed to trace it in 2024…
Le Grêlé in Everyone wants to take their place : “He behaves like a normal guy”
Nicknamed Le Grêlé, François Vérone, his real name, had been wanted since the early 1980s. Suspected of having committed three murders and six murders between 1980 and 1997, he was wanted by the French authorities for more than 35 years. Former gendarme, then police officer, he always managed to confuse investigators.
This is how in 2019, he was even able to participate in the game show Everyone wants to take their placepresented by Nagui at the time, without ever being unmasked. Eliminated in the first round of the show, he only appeared on television once. Which was enough for the journalists to Marianne to trace him. François Vérone finally committed suicide in September 2021, two years after his participation in the program.
In a letter, he admitted several of his crimes, without ever giving any name or date. “He’s an ordinary guy. He behaves like a normal guy who’s going to play a popular game on television.”confided Patricia Tourancheau, author of the book Le Grêlé: The killer was a copabout him.
Nagui, invited to speak on the matter: “To say what? That I had nothing to do with it?”
Questioned on the subject by numerous media, Nagui always remained silent regarding this affair. Obviously very angry with those who wanted to create buzz about him, he declared: “To come back to this anecdote of this serial killer who committed horrors, I reassure you, I refused all the invitations from all the editorial offices, because it seems that the news channels and radio stations do not have many guests today”.
Questioned by his colleague Tanguy Pastureau on the airwaves of France Interhe again refused to speak on the matter: “To say what? That I had nothing to do with it?”. But the answer did not convince his interlocutor, who replied: “It’s not every day that we come across a serial killer, even if we don’t know it, it’s still a life adventure (…) Without knowing it, we undoubtedly come across murderers, rapists, people who beat their wives and who are shaken hands. That makes me wonder.”. An explanation which, however, did not push Nagui to open up further…
