How many times have you wanted to disappear after sending the bad SMS to the bad person … or just written a text in a moment of anger? This panic will soon be a bad memory thanks to a revolutionary functionality of smartphones messages. You still have to know how to configure it.
SMS are part of our daily lives thanks to their practicality and speed. Their main defect? The impossibility of returning to a message sent by mistake – whether it is an awkward formulation, an unjustified reproach or an incorrect recipient. We know all these moments of panic: the personal message sent to his boss, the harsh words expressed in anger during an argument, or this private joke which landed directly with the person concerned.
Until now, the “Delete for me” option has only removed the message from our own interface, without erasing it from the recipient – a fairly useless function in the final. The new feature of Google Messages changes the game by allowing the real deletion of an SMS sent. However, there is a major limitation: this option only works in group conversations using the RCS protocol.
To remove an SMS already sent, the procedure is of childish simplicity. It is enough to press the message for a long time, to select “delete” then choose “delete for everyone”, as is the case on messages sent to WhatsApp. A good way to catch up after a message left too fast!
This will take this all the participants in the discussion to have the latest version of Google Messages, as well as the RCS Universal Profile 2.7. Otherwise, Google specifies that “messages can still be seen by some people on the old versions of the application”. As for the deadline, it is also limited. The functionality must be activated within 15 minutes of sending the SMS to the group, otherwise it will be too late.
An advance that shows how closer to the mobile telephony continues to get closer to the uses of instant messaging. Long frozen in a rigid format, the SMS finally evolves towards more flexibility and control for the user. Even if this option is still limited to certain technical conditions, it marks an important step: that of a more fluid exchange, where you can rectify your mistakes … at least a little.
