Do you have a doubt about the state of your lipstick? Here is the sign that it is time to part with it.
In our beauty vanities, lipsticks accumulate. Different textures, different shades, different brands … It is very rare to use the same every day. The problem ? The lifespan of the products is not eternal, and we end up forgetting for how long they have been lying in the bathroom drawer. Without knowing it, we sometimes use an expired model, which generates risk of irritation, itching or even the appearance of pimples.
If the conservation time of a tube varies from one reference to the other, the packaging obviously contains indications. Generally, there is on the packaging a small pictogram representing an open pot accompanied by a mention in months. This symbol announces how long it is possible to use lipstick once open. The only exception? If its lifespan is more than 30 months, then the drawing is not compulsory. In most cases, a tube can be kept one to two years, it depends on its composition. Indeed, they generally do not contain water, an ingredient promoting the proliferation of bacteria. But now, as soon as we started the product, the years go by and it becomes difficult to remember the moment when it was opened. Therefore, it is not uncommon to exceed the famous deadline. Do not panic: a specific element helps to know if the lipstick is expired. By observing the stick, if you notice a change in the texture, that is to say a dryness or a whitish film on it, it is time to part with it. Other elements indicate that it has had its time: an unpleasant odor, oozing oil, a shorter hold or a more bland color than before. If in doubt, it remains preferable to part with it.
Finally, bad news for those who store their products in the bathroom: to increase the lifespan of a tube, it is better to keep it in a dry and fresh place. We do not forget to always close it after use and leave it far from heat sources.
