Léon Hesby launches: why he did not choose the name of his father Patrick Bruel
Léon Hesby made the decision not to use his real last name, Benguigui, or even his famous father’s stage name, Bruel, for his career. “I have to move forward on my own path and therefore, I did not want to bear the name ‘Bruel'”, he explained. His stage name, Hesby, is however inspired by that of his father and his mother’s surname: “‘S’ for Sthers, and ‘B’ for Bruel. These are the two letters that structure this name“.
The singer also hopes to make a career in the United States initially, before trying to conquer the French public. “If I went the opposite way, I would be described as the son of… That’s not my plan. I want to make a name for myself here first. In the US, I start from zero, without any privileges. My father is very little known here and that’s a good thing. I want to know what I’m worth on my own”, he assured.
But Oscar’s little brother is well aware of the help that Patrick Bruel can provide him: “My privilege lies in the fact that I am lucky enough to have his advice and that he is an artist that I admire“. In addition, he notably wrote a title with his famous father, I Wish You The Bestwhich he performed on stage.
Patrick Bruel, “bluffed” by his son: “He is only 19 years old”
“One day, I sang it to my father, he took his guitar and proposed a chorus with the idea of a note that brings all the magic to this song“, detailed the artist who performed in December on the stage of the Raymond Kabbaz theater in Los Angeles, in front of 200 people who came to cheer him, including his father.
Patrick Bruel, whose house in Los Angeles was recently ravaged by flames like those of hundreds of other people, is in any case proud of his son. “I was amazed by his ease, his demands, his relationship with the public (…) He’s a performer. He is only 19 years old. And the audience present felt it with intensity“, he confided to Gala.
