For the very first time, Anna Wintour has given way to a creator to take care of the artistic direction of the December issue! The lucky one chose a long-time friend to be on the cover: Kaia Gerber.
Since 1988, all US Vogue covers have been directed by Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of the American edition… But that ended today. In fact, the famous fashion journalist co-edited the December issue with her friend Marc Jacobs! News which made the rounds on social networks and which surprised more than one, including the creator himself! “If you had asked me throughout my life, I would never have thought I would be a guest editor at Vogue!“, he said during an interview for the American magazine.
For this edition, Marc Jacobs immediately knew who to call on: Kaia Gerber. Long-time friends, they had already collaborated together in 2016. It was the American designer who entrusted Cindy Crawford’s daughter with her first major contract as the face of his beauty brand! Today, they are working hand in hand to create a cover and photos that were very popular! The reason? They are amusing: a touch of humor which some say was missing from the American magazine.
XXL wigs, more than oversized suits, dresses and pieces in shimmering colors: all the trends of the 60s resurface with a touch of caricature and modernity. Kaia Gerber sports Marc Jacobs’ designs, from the fall-winter 2024 collection. On the cover, the model poses against a pastel green background in an electric blue and pastel pink off-the-shoulder dress, with oversized white gloves. The photos are all full of color and highlight the work of the artists behind the project, including hairstylist Guido Palau and make-up artist Pat McGrath.
This American Vogue cover is Kaia Gerber’s fourth. She explained during the evening dedicated to the magazine that “it’s more and more special each time“. Cindy Crawford’s daughter also thanked the entire team, including Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs in an Instagram post: “Thank you Marc, for your unwavering confidence in me. It has been such a privilege to work with you over the past decade. You create beauty with a sense of humor in a world that really needs it. Thank you Anna for supporting me from the start and always leaving room for individuality. You have the gift to see beauty in its entirety, to delve ever deeper into people’s ethics and to have an impact on each of us.“
If Marc Jacobs didn’t think he was up to it, the December edition of the American fashion magazine is already causing a sensation!
