In a studio, it is sometimes difficult to delimit the spaces. We guide you to transform your one-piece apartment into two universes: a night and a day part.
No, we are not telling you here about major work to transform your studio into two rooms but of To separate the spaces well with a clever decoration and layout. To delimit a day and night space, take into account the volume and configuration of the apartment. Small surfaces can be more or less complicated: depending on if they are square, rectangular or other forms, the constraints are not the same. Nevertheless, here are some tips for arranging your studio well in two distinct parts.
Furniture side
In this kind of reduced space, we put on all that is convertible. In general, furniture is needed in neutral tones who blends into the decor. THE transparent furniture is ideal because it does not climb visually. Note that the development of a small space, if you want to optimize it as much as possible, is a bit expensive.
- The bed: Apart from the sofa bed, when you lack the square meter and you want to avoid the room-room, you can opt for retractable beds, ceiling beds or wall beds. But also for the platform beds which integrate on the ground under a walk of about 25 cm. It depends on the volume and the place we have. If you want a more classic bed, it is possible, but it necessarily takes up more space and it must be put against a wall so as not to lose too much surface.
- The table: It is the most transformable furniture that we find today. There are stretch consoles, liftable, folding or wall tables that adapt perfectly to this type of space. We also think of the extra tables that serve as a stool or storage. For an office area, we put on a wall secretary for example. To create a meal space on a surface of 15 m², it is better to a folding table. In a 30 m², you can opt for an extensible console. With the dining table, you have to think of extra flat folding chairs.
- The dressing room: Better to bet on tailor-made. More expensive than an average wardrobe, tailor-made storage allows you to gain a maximum of space. We earn m² in depth, and we do not lose space under slope.
- Storage: You have to think of everything that is suspended or wall in order to clear the soil and, thus, do not weigh down the space. There are more and more cubes of several sizes to be placed as desired. The important thing is that they have to blend into the decor and have a coating that does not attract attention in order to keep a spirit of lightness.
To separate the spaces well
On surfaces of almost 30 m², you can use Small furniture. However, they must not be more than 1.20 meters high and do not take the entire length/width of the room in order to leave the view released. A piece of furniture in the middle of the space can also punctuate the room. The whole thing is separate without obstructing. To delimit and save space in a studio, you have to choose furniture that can have several functions.
Decor side
For a successful decoration in a small space, it is better not to have too many elements but to choose them.
- Mirrors: They are very clever for a small space because they diffuse the light and bring a perspective. Either a large or a succession of young, we do not hesitate to abuse them and to place them cleverly.
- Tables: You can choose adults or young but that some pieces that are essential. It is the same for wallpaper: you should not load the apartment too much. One or two may be enough.
- The shades: The dark colors give a boudoir or cocooning appearance that can please, but they can also become anxiety -provoking. We can keep these colors for the bedroom part. The bright colors, on the other hand, are used in small touches in the apartment, via cushions for example. Better to head in general towards clear, brighter shades, which bring space. Monochrome white is ideal.

To mark the spaces
We can use color To separate the day from the night area. With wallpaper or angle paintwe create an alcove for the bedroom part. It is also possible to use the paint on the floor or ceiling : we draw a full square for the room or simply a band that surrounds the space. You also have to think about using stencils or different coatings.
Apart from the paintings and wallpapers that are not necessarily allowed when you rent a studio, you can useDecoration elements like curtains or a descending blind. The screen, trendy and very easy to fold and store, is ideal. However, the latter are rather recommended for surfaces between 23 m² and 30 m². For surfaces that approach 15 m², it is better to bet on a mezzanine. You also have to think of the carpets, very effective.
Errors to avoid
The main error in a small surface when you want to have very distinct spaces is to want to put 50 m² in a 20 m². It’s necessary avoid putting too much furniture, to have too much information. You have to go to the point: do not forget anything but know how to free yourself from certain unnecessary objects.
Latest tips: You have to think carefully before you buy and measure well: Beware of the size of the furniture, the rendering in the store is not the same as in 30 m²! Finally, it is necessary think of the arrangement before buying anything.
