Overwhelming temperature, suffocating air … Here is what you have to immediately put in place to hold on, day and night.
Between June and September, France is experiencing strong heat episodes, which it is sometimes’ very) difficult to bear. The body can quickly overheat, especially in the most sensitive. To better have overwhelming heat, here are our simple tips to put into action:
- Wearing loose, light, clear clothes, prefer cotton, which lets air pass and absorbs perspiration.
- Drinking regularly without waiting to be thirsty, essentially water, fruits possibly pressed.
- Never alcohol. Avoid sodas and other sugary drinks. Avoid woods with a high caffeine content (diuretics)
- Use a fan and fogger: first fog down the discovered parts and then ventilate the wet parts with the manual fan. To repeat as many times as you want, as soon as you are dry.
- Do not go out in 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and rest, in a cool place.
- Take fresh but not cold showers because the body would produce energy and heat to warm it up. It is also necessary to avoid cold showers because they can cause thermal shock.
- Wet the body (at least the face and the forearms) several times a day, wet your T-shirt and your cap before putting them on, let them dry on the skin and renew the process.
- Prefer raw fruits and vegetables and cold dishes for meals (salad, gazpacho …).
- If cooking is necessary, avoid that in the oven so as not to be exposed to heat.
- Limit physical activity even gardening, DIY …
- If an activity is compulsory: never in the sun.
- Wait in the evening for a “cool” stroll.
- The elderly are particularly vulnerable in the event of hot weather. They must:
- Spend several hours a day in a cool or air -conditioned location
- Wet the body regularly to lower their body temperature (wet linen, damp glove on the face, arms, neck, fogger on the face …)
- Drinking enough (about 1.5 liters of water, that is to say the amount of water that they are able to eliminate) without waiting to be thirsty
- Eat enough (if necessary by splitting meals), to bring the mineral salts necessary to the body.
Heat quickly exposes infants and young children to dehydration that can be serious. During a heat wave:
- Keep children in a fresh atmosphere and discover them.
- Never leave children alone in an overheated place, a badly ventilated room or a car, even for a few seconds.
- Suggest regularly to drink and plan to take, during trips, sufficient quantities of water
Barricade her house to protect her from the sun’s rays
- Lower the blinds and close the shutters exposed to the sun.
- Close the windows and lighters the day on the sun side. They can be left open on the shadow side if it allows you to make air. If so, hang a damp towel to cool the room. If the air currents are not possible, let everything close.
- Open the windows in the evening when the sun is lying and the outside temperature has lowered.
- Leave the windows open at night if possible to make drafts.
- If the home cannot be refreshed: plan to spend several hours a day, every day, in a cool place, close to your home and spotted in advance (trade, air -conditioned cinema …).
If you have puffs of sweat by drinking a glass of water, if you have not urinated for more than 5 hours or if your urine is dark: drink immediately even if you are not thirsty. If you have cramps, headaches, nausea, unusual fatigue after a direct exposure to the sun, put yourself in a cool place, drink, stop all physical activities, sprinkle with water and ventilate. In an emergency, call Center 15 immediately.
