Good times with friends, memories with family, significant events… photos immortalize the precious moments of our lives.
We like to look at them, leaf through them in an album or display them on our walls. In addition to the clichés that can compose it, the jumble refers to a wall painting that brings together several elements. Postcards, drawings, fabrics, wallpaper… the jumble is used to create wall decoration, but it can also be very useful in work or in developing a project. It then becomes a mood board, or inspiration board, and allows you to hang on to trends or pin down decoration, recycling, sewing ideas… It is a real creative support.
Photo collage, what is it?
In the case of photos, the collage is a good alternative to traditional frames. We generally use small format photos, or even polaroids, which are very trendy with their white strip allowing you to leave a caption at the bottom of the photo. You can also mix the sizes of the prints to give relief to the whole, especially if you plan to create a collage on an entire section of the wall (above a sofa for example). The idea is to find a guideline for your combination of photos: a trip, family moments, your toddler’s first year, your wedding, a vacation with friends, nature photos… The possibilities are endless and your dream -melee will be unique.
Where to find a collage stand
If you want to create a photo collage, you will need to start by having your photos developed. Please note that most photo printing sites offer turnkey jumble assemblies. All you have to do is compose them online and you will receive your wall painting ready to hang. You can also turn to supports that will allow you to pin or insert your photos. Very trendy, the wired metal collage allows you to combine and change your photos whenever you want thanks to its clips. Another possibility, the photo holder or postcard will bring a vintage look to your composition. More classic, the jumble of photo frames has the advantage of protecting your photos under glass. You will find these different collage supports in stores and decoration sites (La Redoute, Maisons du Monde, GiFi, etc.).
Make your own photo collage
By definition, a jumble is a combination of several images. You can therefore opt for a simple collage of photos on your wall: adhesive tape, Masking Tape, pins, magnets (if your painting is magnetic). To arrange well aligned or overlapping… it’s up to you!
The cork board is also an ideal support for pinning your photos. It can be placed on a sideboard or chest of drawers rather than being fixed to the wall.
If you’re feeling DIY, you can start creating a clothesline-style collage. To do this, staple several pieces of string to the edges of a frame (with or without a background) (count the height of a photo between each thread). All you have to do is hang your photos using small wooden clothespins.
Using the same principle, you can create a hanging collage. Tie 3-4 strings to a wooden cleat or trunnion of approximately 50 cm, which you will hang from a nail using a string attached to each end. You will then pin your photos on the strings. Remember to weigh them down by attaching small subjects or geometric shapes in Fimo paste.
Rubber bands are also a good way to display photos. Tie several strands of elastic around a wooden board and form a grid. All you have to do is drag and drop your photos. To play the contrast card, paint your board white and choose black elastic (or vice versa)!
