Electric or diesel, city car or SUV… when it’s time to change cars, it’s not easy to navigate a bloated automobile market. A mechanic reveals which model he would choose if he had to buy a new vehicle.
There is currently a fairly huge range of car models. So, when it comes time to buy one or take out a lease, it can be very difficult to know where to start. We find ourselves faced with such a quantity of information that we can mix everything up and not be able to sort it out to make a decision. It can therefore be useful to ask for feedback or opinions from automotive experts.
Javier Sendín, elected best mechanic in Spain in 2023, explains precisely to Mundo Deportivo that he would avoid buying a new car. If current models are “safer, more comfortable and easier to drive thanks to advances in driver assistance and safety systems”, they are also very expensive and, what’s more, they cost “much more to maintain than those of a few years ago”. However, he admits that we don’t always have a choice: “IIt is true that it depends a lot on each person and their situation. Nowadays, in some cities, if you don’t have an eco-friendly or zero-emission vehicle, you almost can’t drive. So, for some, there is no other choice but to opt for a new car.”
So, if he was in this situation and he couldn’t do otherwise, Javier Sendín indicates what type of vehicle he would choose: “HHonestly, I don’t want to buy a new car at the moment. But if I had to choose one, I would without hesitation opt for a plug-in hybrid, and preferably Japanese.”
Javier Sendín highlights the advantages of cars of this type, indicating that they combine “the best of two technologies: the thermal engine and the electric motor”. Thus, we can easily move around the city “in 100% electric mode, at very low cost and without emissions”, so that we can also access areas which limit access to vehicles which pollute too much. And, when you need to make long journeys, the combustion engine takes over, avoiding having to take long breaks to recharge.
