On social networks, a collagen mask is creating a buzz. His promise? Plumped, smoothed and flawless skin, all in one night. My opinion after testing it.
Baby skin overnight, is it really possible? If you’re a fan of social media (and beauty), you’ve probably already seen this happening in recent weeks. Personally, this is my case. While scrolling, I came across dozens of videos of Internet users testing a fabric-gel face mask from a Korean brand, which until then was unknown to me. On the plane during long-haul flights, or before going to sleep, it is applied to the face and, little by little, the skin absorbs its contents until the sheet becomes transparent. The key? Plump, flawless skin, less visible pores and a radiant complexion. All in one night, thanks to the presence of collagen peptides, known for their powerful anti-aging power. But also niacinamide, a vitamin B derivative perfect for reducing possible inflammation and smoothing skin texture, hyaluronic acid and galactomyces (a fungus). The latter have no equal for a unified epidermis. You just have to see the result on users: when they remove the mask after several hours, they systematically reveal magnificent and luminous skin.
In short, faced with the hundreds of videos crossing my TikTok feed, my curiosity as a beauty journalist was piqued (I’m only human after all). Is this mask as miraculous as people want us to believe? To be sure, a test is necessary. So I order the Bio-Collagen mask from the Biodance brand. After cleansing my face and applying a serum, as recommended on the packaging, I apply the gel-textured fabric to my skin. The mask is divided into two: one part for the top of the face, then one for the bottom, which must be carefully smoothed with your fingers. Unlike many masks, it’s not too big and blends onto the face perfectly. It does not slip, and stays in place. So much the better since you’ll have to keep it on all night, whereas most similar products work in 20 or 30 minutes. Biodance acts in 3 to 4 hours minimum, but for a real result it is preferable to wear it for 8 hours. If you can’t stand spending the night with something on your face, it may not be for you. For my part, it’s time to go to sleep.
After a good night’s sleep of nine hours (strangely the mask did not disturb my sleep), I was afraid of waking up with a piece of mask on one end of the bed and the other half in my hair. To my surprise, he didn’t move an inch. I rush to the mirror: the fabric is completely transparent, a sign that my skin has absorbed the entire contents. I remove it to discover an ultra-plump skin, less visible pores, an even complexion and the small fine lines on my forehead have disappeared… Exactly like in the videos! The pimple that has been plaguing my cheek for several weeks (yes, he decided to go camping) has even diminished. I could go to work without makeup, it wouldn’t be a problem. Forced to face the facts, I take my hat off to the Biodance brand.
Be careful though, masks are not miraculous in the long term: they provide baby-like skin for a few hours, or a day at most. “As an occlusive, the mask locks moisture into the skin. The result is that skin is temporarily brighter, looks younger and softer.“, explains Dr. Brendan Camp, a dermatologist, to the American version of Vogue. Comments confirmed by Dr. Mina Amin, also a dermatologist: “These masks are great for hydration, but they won’t have the long-term effects people are hoping for“, she always adds to Vogue. Before an evening or an important event, Bio-Collagen will give your face the boost it needs for a real “wow” effect. Biodance masks are available on Amazon, YesStyle and Stylevana The price starts at €6.99 per unit and varies depending on the sites and the number of masks in the package.
