Hugues Aufray and his “weariness” shared by a singer
If he continues to go on stage at 96, Hugues Aufray admits to being somewhat fed up… What annoys him? That we always ask her for the same songs… like Sheila! “A little weariness sometimes (…) I have recorded 430 songs in my life but the public knows five, six maximum“, he admitted. And the artist recounts a concrete example: “On television, for example, the other day someone said to me: ‘We’re going to give you a nice surprise, we’re going to do a tribute to the show Taratata. You’re going to sing Santiano.’ Talk about a surprise!“
But what really gets to him is not being able to install new songs: “What annoys me a little in this job is not being able to sing a new song. I sing other people’s songs because I find them very beautiful. I don’t want to sing a song that I find average.” But don’t think he’s complaining, he who is happy to play to full houses.
Hugues Aufray refuses to choose: “It’s segregation“
Not mean at all but frank as always, Hugues Aufray also admitted during his appearance on the show hosted by Jimmy Mohamed that he cannot stand this question that he is still asked regularly on television sets or in interviews: “What is your favorite song in your repertoire?“
A question he refuses to answer, on principle. “I don’t answer that. You ask me to segregate within my repertoire“, he said bluntly. Before giving a clear and unstoppable metaphor: “It’s like I’m asking you: do you have children? Which one do you prefer?“For him, each piece counts, each song has its story. It is therefore impossible to single out just one to the detriment of the others.
