It is better to drive with caution, because it holds the record for the greatest number of fixed radars.

Any motorist will probably say: riding on a road full of radars can quickly become a puzzle. Even while remaining concentrated, the slightest little speed is sufficient to trigger the radar flash and harvest a fine. By force, driving can be stressful, even unpleasant for certain motorists. In general, there are those who keep their eyes riveted on the counter all along, and the others who try somehow to avoid the roads strewn with radars. But sometimes, difficult to escape it, especially in a particular region of France.

If you did not yet know, our territory has around 3,400 fixed automatic radars, according to the latest government data. Their location is strategic: they are installed in danger areas, including major highways and rather dense urban areas. Therefore, some regions concentrate much more than others.

And to this game, contrary to what one might think, it is not Ile-de-France which wins first place, but New Aquitaine. According to the map of radars of the Ministry of the Interior, in December 2024, this region – which is the largest in France with 12 departments – alone had 411 devices. Île-de-France arrives just behind with 359 radars, followed by Occitanie and its 350 equipment in service.

If you plan to go through one of these departments of New Aquitaine for a weekend, holidays or a pro trip, it is better to lift your foot on the accelerator and scrupulously respect speed limitations: Charente (16), Charente-Maritime (17), Corrèze (19), Creuse (23), Dordogne (24), Gironde (33), Land-and-Garonne (47), Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64), Deux-Sèvres (79), Vienne (86) and Haute-Vienne (87). As a reminder, the higher the speed, the more the risk of serious accident increases. In the event of a shock, each extra kilometer can make the difference between a simple hanging and a drama.
