Much to the displeasure of long hair fans, the bob is all the rage this season. And among all the variations that are flooding social networks, this hairstyle with retro inflections is the most popular of the moment.
They’ve probably been flooding our Instagram feed all summer long. Whether they’re long, wavy, plunging, straight, unstructured, or even twisted with bangs, bobs have taken over the entire beauty world, from runways to trendy celebrities. Easy to maintain, bobs are loved for their casual, ethereal look, modernizing any look. This variation, in particular, has quickly become THE trend of fall.
We see it on every street corner. More daring than the mid-length cut, but less difficult to wear than the Pixie cut, this version of the retro bob ensures a sensual and sophisticated look in the blink of an eye. Recognizable by its curved tips stopping just above the chin, it is the ideal option to push the limits of the classic bob. Seen on the catwalks of the most important houses, it was not long before it hit the streets, seducing our favorite beauty icons. The latest to have adopted it: Angèle. Since her performance alongside Kavinsky at the closing ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games, the singer’s hairstyle has gone viral, becoming the star beauty inspiration of the season.
Although very fashionable this year, the trend is not new. Indeed, the micro bob appeared at the beginning of the 1920s. A period of modernity for women, which saw the advent of liberating trends. At the time, some figures such as Coco Chanel, Clara Bow, Colleen Hoover or Louise Brooks decided to cut their hair very short, as a testimony to their emancipation from traditional feminine codes.
They are then quickly imitated by other women, beyond the screens. The micro bob becomes a way to express one’s personality by ignoring established morals. Indeed, by getting rid of their hair, women also put an end to tradition. In an article published in Britannia and Eve In 1929, a hairdresser reported: “Short hair is not a fashion whim, it is a sign of adaptation to modern life.”
Since then, the micro bob has continued to evolve and reinvent itself, oscillating between textured, slightly geometric, and more casual looks. For our part, we are already fans of its 2024 version. And you, will you let yourself be tempted?
