A study published on May 21 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that an action could slow aging. Rest assured, it is not a question of injecting the blood plasma of your teenager in your veins, like the American multimillionaire Byran Johnson. The gesture in question is much simpler. For four years, researchers followed 1,071 participants aged 65 on average. They measured their telomeres as you go. What are the telomeres? Thierry Souccar explains it very well: “Imagine your chromosomes as shoe laces. It is the small plastic tips that prevent the lace from fraying. Except that unlike the real tips, our telomeres shortened with each cell division”. The shorter they are, the more badly your cells age and risk developing age -related diseases. In short, it is better that they are long.
Study results? In the placebo group, a substantial shortening of telomeres has been observed. On the group having taken vitamin D, they also shortened, but in a minimal way. The difference is significant. The researchers concluded that vitamin D made it possible to slow down cell aging of 3 years.
