When you want to lose weight, it is the first reflex. A sports outfit, a playlist that motivates, and off we go. However, a fitness coach claims that this exercise, as popular as it is, would be completely ineffective for burning fat. Worse still: it would curb all your efforts.
It is a thunderclap in the world of fitness. On Instagram, Dan Go, sports coach, did not chew his words. According to him, a highly practiced training would be far from the best option to lose weight. For this specialist, it is a misunderstanding that persists, to the point of becoming counterproductive.
Indeed, the longer, the better, it is believed. And it is precisely this logic that Dan Go deconstructs. “Most people think it is a necessity. When you think of playing sports to lose weight, you immediately think of a long distance cardio. It is absolutely not a necessity, and this way of thinking slows you down more than you think.” What the coach means is that we place too much hope in this effort, when he does not bring the expected results.
He gives a very concrete example: “Burning 100 calories on a carpet is incomparable to the time it takes to learn not to eat it.” In other words, it is better to rethink your diet than be striking to move in all directions. Because spending hours sweating for a minimal deficit is, according to him, a loss of energy. Dan Go even goes so far as to drive the point home: “Also imagine that you lose 9 kg thanks to the long distance cardio. Super. What’s going on if you stop the cardio? Everything comes back.” It’s not just a matter of efficiency at the moment. The problem is sustainability. If you bet everything about this exercise to keep the line, you put yourself in a situation of failure as soon as you raise your foot.
Another perverse effect: muscle loss. When you do too much cardio and you do not strengthen your muscles, you end up burning a little fat, yes, but also muscle. As a result, the metabolism slows down, the body weakens, and the silhouette does not transform as we hope. So, should we ban cardio? No, replies the coach. But you have to review the goal. “This does not mean that cardio is not important. It is essential to live well. But the objective is important.” He continues: “Choose a form of cardio that you like, but don’t feel forced to do it to lose weight.”
Translation: Sport cannot everything. You have to combine. Move, yes. Eat well, above all. And strengthen his body to become a real calorie burner. Hence the importance of bodybuilding. No need to lift extreme loads, but stimulate your muscles, make them work, maintain them. Because an active muscle continues to consume energy, even at rest. Unlike a long cardio session that stops as soon as you sit. Think about it!
