When signing for their future house, Lisa and her companion thought they had found the ideal place to put their suitcases. But a last -minute reflex has avoided what she calls them today “the biggest error in their lives”.
Everything was played in a few hours. Lisa, 29, real estate advisor, is not a new in this area. Buying a house, she knows what it represents: a substantial sum, compromises and sometimes a part of unknown to accept. Which does not prevent her, like any buyer, from being carried away by emotion when she visited this property in a town close to her house …
The house cokes almost all the boxes: beautiful surface, small garden, open kitchen, work already done. From the first visit, it is the favorite. “We immediately projected each other. The neighborhood looked quiet, the house had just been repainted, the owner was nice. We made an offer in stride “, she explains on Tiktok. A few days later, everything is accepted. However, one thing continues to trot him in his head. The neighborhood, precisely. They don’t know him so well. Some car walks were not enough to get a real idea. And she starts to ask questions.
This is where a detail challenges him. The name of the former owner appeared on a document sent by the real estate agent. “I went to Facebook. I looked for it.” She quickly finds her profile, then clicks on the name of the neighborhood to explore the neighboring groups. “All districts have their Facebook group today, that’s how people discuss work, local events, problems.”
She then came across several messages posted by the ex-owner. “The first thing I read was’ how to file a complaint against my neighbor for nighttime”. Then another post on teens who jumped in his garden, others who climbed the fences, fights, gateway … “ She did not simply mention a bad atmosphere, but many repeated acts, visibly never resolved. “The house itself was nickel, but the neighborhood was quite the opposite. And it was obviously targeted on their house. I was tapered.”
Lisa then discussed it with her companion. “We wondered: are we ready to live this with a young child? Are we ready for it to start with us?” Very quickly, the answer is no. They contact their notary, cancel the offer, then get back into research. “I was embarrassed to have removed the offer. But frankly, I did well. I avoided the biggest real estate error in my life.” Since then, the couple has found another accommodation and moved there with their son. As real estate agents regularly repeat: the first purchase criterion is location!
