LED masks are taking over the beauty market and prices are following the trend. Before taking out the credit card to take advantage of their anti-aging and radiance-boosting promises, a question arises: how long is this device supposed to last?

LED facial masks have become part of beauty routines with promises of anti-aging results, radiance and imperfections. But, behind the red light and the futuristic diodes, there is above all an electronic device, with components, a battery and materials that age. However, when we are talking about a purchase that often exceeds several hundred euros, durability becomes an essential criterion.

Indeed, on the beauty market, the prices of the most famous models are easily between 300 and 700 euros, a real investment. Thus, beyond the results on the skin, this amount encourages attention to the reliability of the device. And for good reason, Doctor Dinuk Dissanayake, a doctor specializing in skin health, recalls: “LED failures are rare, but are usually due to the technology and materials used.” In other words, behind the shell and the adjustable straps hides a network of microwiring. “Over time, these mechanical stresses can compromise connections, leading to flickering or loss of operation in certain areas”continues the doctor.

Added to this is another key point, common to all rechargeable devices: “Like all electronic devices, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries have a limited number of charge cycles. Over the years, their ability to maintain an efficient charge naturally diminishes”she explains. Even the outer shell is not eternal. She adds: “Exposure to heat, humidity, and skin oils can eventually cause materials to lose resilience, become brittle, or discolor.”

Concerning its duration of use, Doctor Raj Arora, doctor, also a skin specialist, emphasizes: “LED masks typically have a lifespan of around 1,000 to 3,000 hours of use, but this can vary between brands.” On the manufacturers’ side, the discourse is similar. “A high quality LED mask should last several years with regular use at home”says Sue D’Arcy, founder of iSmart. And, to give a clear benchmark, Doctor Dinuk Dissanayake specifies: “In short, you can expect a lifespan of 3 to 5 years with regular use.”

You guessed it, these limitations suggest that LED masks require a minimum of attention, like any electronic device used near the skin and in a humid room. In terms of maintenance, Doctor Raj Arora recommends storing it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and cleaning it after each use.
