– Even with a reduced yield on August 1, the LEP will remain much more profitable than the Livret A this year
A lesser evil for holders of a Popular Savings Account (LEP). Certainly, on August 1, the LEP interest rate will fall. But the reduction in the remuneration of this savings book reserved for low-income households will be limited. Indeed, while inflation continues to decline and should bring down the LEP yield at 2.2% on August 1st, compared to 5% since February 1st, it will not be able to fall below 3.5%. And this, thanks to a rule which provides that the LEP rate cannot be lower than that of the Livret A – frozen at 3% until 2025 – increased by half a point. Above all, and in order to further democratize the LEP, Bercy and the governor of the Bank of France could once again grant a boost to the remuneration of the THE P and maintain it at a higher level, for example at 4%.

Up to 467 euros for a LEP on the ceiling
Whatever the scenario chosen by Bruno Le Maire for the next revaluation of the LEP rate, which the Minister of the Economy and Finance will announce around July 15, the year 2024 will therefore remain an excellent vintage for modest savers. equipped with this savings product. Because even with a return lowered to 3.5% on August 1, the remuneration of the LEP will appear at 4.46% over the entire financial year. Thus, for a popular savings account completed at ceiling of 10,000 euros, the interest received on December 31 will amount to 446 euros. For a LEP with an average outstanding amount of 6,600 euros, 294 euros will fall into your pocket at the end of the year.

LEP: “With my interest, my Popular Savings Account exceeds the ceiling, am I taxed?”
And it will be even more if Bercy grants a new boost to the remuneration of your savings and sets the LEP rate at 4% in the heart of summer. In this case, the annualized return on your booklet will reach 4.67%. With the maximum outstanding amount of 10,000 euros, you will receive 467 euros. Interest which will appear at 308 euros if you had placed 6,600 euros on your LEP at the start of the year. That is 110 euros more than on a Livret A which, with this same capital, will only earn you 198 euros in 2024.
