Who says back to school, also says, often, hole in the budget. This year, according to the annual survey of Families de France, the cost of the start of the school year for a student entering the 6ᵉ class will be on average 211.10 euros. A total expenditure which includes the cost of the stationery (notebooks, agenda, etc.), other school supplies and sports items. However, thanks to different savings or payment solutions, these constrained expenses can also bring you.

The Mutual Garance has for example put online a simulator allowing you to assess how much the start of the school year costs the school level of your children (primary school, colleges and high schools, and students), and what you can earn on this amount thanks to its Cagn’up solution. An application launched last May allowing you to buy gift cards that can be used in partner signs of the mutual insurance company.

A kitty invested directly on life insurance or per

“The principle is simple, it is a cashback system, I spend 50 euros in the purchase of a virtual card of a partner brand, it is therefore credited with 50 euros. And when I use it, a percentage is donated to my kitty »explains Alexis Poirier, director of customer relations at Garance. As soon as your kitty reaches 50 euros, the amount is automatically transferred to the savings product of your choice: life insurance or the retirement savings plan (PER) of the mutual.

Thus, for a child in college or high school, Garance provides a total back -to -school budget 593 euros. A much higher amount than estimates of families in France, because it takes into account the purchase of a backpack, new sneakers and school works in partner brands. On this core ticket extended, the prize pool is estimated at 26 euros.

Saving cents can also report big

But these are not the only constrained expenses for a month in September. If we add a food budget From 500 euros, a monthly subscription budget of 30 euros (Netflix, Deezer), a shopping budget of 100 euros and a “house” budget of 50 euros (houses of the world, Ikea, goal, etc.), the global “back -to -school” prize pool can reach 64.7 euros, if everything is bought in partner brands! By placing this amount at an average rate of 7% per year (i.e. the “daring” profile of Garance Life insurance Savings in management piloted in 2024), enriched with 38.7 euros recurring monthly cagnottage, we can hope to reach in 10 years a capital of 7,422 eurosonly by spending.

In addition to recovering part of your back -to -school purchases, you can make this long -term money grow. A possibility that other applications also offer you, thanks to the rounding savings method. With each purchase with your bank card, you can schedule a rounding at the upper euro, which will be spared. By buying a satchel at 45.50 euros, you will be debited by 46 euros, and the 50 more cents will be invested.

Generally, these apps, such as Plum, Trade Republic, or more recently N26, offer you then to invest everything in the financial markets, in particular via ETF, which lend themselves well to small amounts in a regular way. According to the PLUM application, its users thus save a few tens of euros per month, and around 180 euros over a year. By investing this sum every year with a return of 7% (the average annual return on shares over the last 15 years, according to the IEIF) we arrive at a capital of 2,841 euros After 10 years, and here too, only thanks to your expenses.
