TOlla first Sanremo press conference, when for many it was still almost a stranger, Lucio Corsi He showed up with his guitar and sang an unpublished song, Francis Delacroix, who would only go out two months later. At the semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest of 13 May broadcast on Rai 2on the other hand, where the regulation obliges competitors to sing on a recorded base thus prohibiting playing live, will bring with it a harmony “because I will be able to pass it from the same microphone of the voice and so they will not be able to silence it”. This is explained by the great success of Lucio Corsi, who touched the victory in Sanremo with I wanted to be a tough: After years of approval, of singers all the same and plasticized music, it appeared as an alien terrified by a planet that seemed to have disappeared, that of songwriters who know music well and make the tool to express their world.
An artist against the current also in the fact that it is arrived at the general public at 31 years old and not through the followers on social networks, but after a long apprenticeship who now remembers: «I decided to do this job as a child after seeing the Blues brothers Because they showed the musician like a superhero: he could fall a building on him, but they gave themselves a sprinkling and left from the head. And I did a bit like that: I continued to write songs even if the first 50 sucks and I continued to play even when there was no one in the concerts. I also played a lot on the street and it was a great lesson to learn to ensure that others realize about you ».
Today, however, the dates of the spring tour are already sold out. And the new album, which has the same title as the Sanremo song, flies to the rankings. The beautiful cover depicts, as in the other records, a painting by mom Nicoletta. Lucio, about painting, says he “loves Antonio Ligabue in particular. He always moves me to think of him when, every time he ended up a picture, he put him on his shoulders and went around by motorbike to show it to the country. He flew with fantasy: he had never seen a live tiger and painted these huge tigers, who embodied the essence of the animal. Even on a stage you can escape from reality. But then, when you go down, you have to go back to keep your feet firmly on the ground and don’t feel who knows who ».
Sales like the olive trees of the Tuscan Maremma where the singer -songwriter was born and raised and that, as he sings in I wanted to be a tough“They only bow under the weight of the snow. I am lucky to be born there and to be able to return to it: it is a place where you learn to dialogue with boredom and not to escape from her. Because passing inside boredom I found the songs that make me travel where I think. Like Paolo Conte, who when he sings “South America, South America …” is there, even if he wrote it in his home in Asti. Musical instruments are also powerful means of transport: always, when things go badly, I put myself on the piano. The first tool, however, was the harmonica, which I learned from my father ». In the countryside, adds the singer -songwriter, “silence and darkness really are there, not as in the city. And silence is also fundamental in music: the tools “speak” only when needed, otherwise they are silent. We should learn from them ».
I wanted to be a tough It is an autobiographical song and also in the rest of the album Lucio tells of his life: “There are many friendships, many loves, characters, some real and other imaginary, because by mixing my story with that of others, the possibility of looking behind you and surprising you is created”.
The disc also marks a change in writing the texts: «First I tried to talk about people through events such as darkness, the dream, or through the animals that populate the Maremma. Here, however, I tried to talk about people in a more direct way, I tried to resume things from a sidewalk and no longer from a drone. I wanted to learn to do it because Many of the songwriters that I love were masters in this: Lucio Dalla, Ivan Graziani, Rino Gaetano knew how to be directed without giving up the size of the imagination Because each of us, even if apparently brings with it a small story, has an epic dimension. And it is a form of story that today has been lost a bit in the Italian song: the individual states of moods are privileged. Instead, so who writes and therefore also, later, who listens is as if he knew new people. I see how a rebus the Italian language put on music, because words always have a rhythmic value that must be taken into account when you choose them. Stopping the stanzas one after the other is always a beautiful journey ».
