Be careful not to supplement anyway …
When fatigue persists, the reflex is to turn to “whipping” natural solutions like eating more fruit rich in vitamin C (orange, lemon …), increase your coffee dose, go to bed earlier … but also to consider supplementation in the form of food supplements. Many anti -fatigue capsules and tablets are available in pharmacies, without prescription and free access. But you have to be careful because some can on the contrary strengthen fatigue.
In terms of anti-fatigue supplements, healthcare professionals all agree that it is better to avoid hazardous self-medication. A simple “blow of soft” does not always justify a cure, and even less a cocktail of substances. Before any supplementation, it is advisable to identify the real cause of fatigue – whether it is linked to a deficiency, a hormonal imbalance, prolonged stress or an unbalanced rhythm of life. And do not hesitate to ask a healthcare professional for advice: attending physician, pharmacist, nutritionist … to assess needs and avoid errors. Because a poorly adapted cure can be counterproductive.
This is the case, for example, of an iron cure. Often recommended to tired women, iron should not be taken without a prior biological assessment. This makes it possible to check the reserves of the organization (ferritin, serum iron, saturation of transferrin), which is included under the term “martial status”. “In the absence of a proven deficiency, an excessive iron intake, even in soft form like bisglycinate, can disturb the liver, promote inflammation of low grade, increase oxidative stress and paradoxically strengthen fatigue” warns Sabrina Meziani-el Attar, naturopath-micronutritionist. It is essential to stay below 45 mg iron per day in supplementation, spread over the day, and always under follow -up.
Dr. Julien Rousseaux, nutritionist doctor, recalls that “Any food supplement must be individualized, and accompanied by a medical advice in case of doubt, especially when it comes to iron or adaptogenic plants (Rhodiola, Ginseng, Eleutherochoque, Guarana, Maca …) or even vitamins B”. He recommends favoring quality supplements, well dosed, without excess of active substances, and to always respect the dosages. In general, it is advisable to buy food supplements in French pharmacies rather than on the internet.
