This time, the 57th national march for peace will be held in Pesaro on 31 December, organized by the CEI Commission for social problems and work, justice and peace, by Caritas Italiana, by Catholic Action, by Pax Christi Italy, from the Focolare Movement, from Agesci, Acli and Libera together with the archdiocese of Pesaro and Urbino-Urbania-Sant’Angelo in Vado.
The usual annual initiative will start at 3.30 pm at the Amphitheater of Miralfiore Park and, through various stages, will arrive at the Cathedral of Pesaro, where at 9 pm Mass will be celebrated, presided over by Monsignor Sandro Salvucci, archbishop of Pesaro and Urbino -Urbania-Sant’Angelo in Vado. The March, broadcast live by tv2000, will see the alternation of testimonies along the route that winds through the city, capital of culture 2024. There will also be readings of passages from Pope Francis’ Message for the World Day of Peace which is celebrated on January 1st and which this year has the theme “Forgive us our debts: grant us your peace”. We will listen to the voices of some experiences of hospitality, dialogue and non-violence present on the national territory. Without forgetting the different conflict contexts, in particular the Holy Land, Syria and Ukraine. «In this season marked by senseless wars», explain the promoters, «we want to tune in to the Jubilee style invoked by Pope Francis: to build peace we need to generate forgiveness and know how to forgive debts. Without social justice there is no peace. Without recognition of the other there is no future. We will march in Pesaro, city of culture 2024, to remind everyone of the need to educate in a culture of peace, made up of encounters, social friendship and renewed relationships. May the Jubilee convert us to transform the weapon of credit into a debt of reconciliation and social and environmental justice.”
