What are your 3 gold tips to avoid being ripped off?
I don’t buy when I don’t know the site well. You limit scams as much as possible by buying from known brands. Then, I go through Paypal to try to really lock the thing. And then I will look at the general conditions. If I do not see the general conditions, the contact details of the site and that I see that it is in a foreign country, then I drop. Because, for once, if there is a problem, you will have to go abroad. And you will have nothing. So, I try to remain really Franco-French. Otherwise, there is no secret.
But above all, compare prices! The basic rule is that it does not exist the things that are worth half price. If a phone, a sofa or a hairdryer were half price, then baker and Darty would close their doors … So, the one who tells you: ‘I can have the TV at half price.’ Do not go.
Have you ever been the victim of a scam yourself?
Oh yes, plumber, locksmith … Yes, a plumber who came and who tried to bother me for 1,000 euros. Afterwards, I bought a racket with a ball attached to an elastic, to play in front of my home during the covid, but I never received it because it was a scam. Well, for once, it was 15 euros. So it was not very serious. And if not, it is mainly issues. Now, I still be careful, but it’s more like issues of the style “You will be delivered Thursday” but you are not delivered on Thursday because they do not have the thing …
It is rather things like that. But basically, it’s a scam. Now I’m too careful to really get ripped off and I admit that my name helps me a lot.
Do you give advice to your children?
So on the internet, but to death! Because in addition, it is a completely “internet purchases” generation. But, strangely, they are more cautious than us. Because they are clever, they know the cogs … And my son, sometimes he says to me: “That, you will see, I’m going to show yourself if you have the same on another site.” On the whole aspect of the use of online bank cards, on this side mine are reglos, they pay great attention to what they buy and everything!
