A little extra line, placing your application directly at the top of the pile.
Applications pile up, answers become rare, and candidates end up having doubts. But according to a human resources director, information that is often overlooked would make all the difference in landing a job interview before everyone else.
Indeed, recruiters receive dozens, sometimes hundreds of applications for the same position, which is why it generally only takes one detail for a CV to be dismissed without a glance. In this ultra-competitive context, strategy matters almost as much as skills. Avery Morgan, HR director at EduBirdie, a platform specializing in supporting students and young professionals, observes this phenomenon every day. “Candidates are becoming more and more frustrated. They apply, wait weeks, and end up being ghosted. Yet some small tweaks to a resume can make a big difference.” According to her, it is no longer enough to pile on experiences. What catches the eye of a recruiter today is clarity and boldness.
Avery Morgan notes: employers are above all looking for confident profiles, capable of clearly expressing what they want. “The job market has become tighter. Companies don’t have time to guess candidates’ expectations. They want to know where they are going.” Result: those who announce the color from the start often move to the head of the pile. This transparency demonstrates the mastery of his journey. It shows that we know our value, that we have learned about industry standards and that we are not afraid to talk about them. It is also, according to the specialist, a way of filtering offers that do not really correspond to one’s ambitions.
We are talking here about salary. Yes, stating your salary expectations in black and white in your CV – or in your cover letter – often speeds up the process. “58% of Generation Z don’t even apply without having posted their salary,” reminds the HR department.
And for good reason: this fact, still considered taboo by many, actually makes it possible to establish a more balanced relationship from the start. “In general, if you don’t mention anything, the company will offer the minimum. But if you state your expectations, you set a framework”she insists. Obviously, she advises first finding out about market rates before positioning yourself, in order to be both realistic and credible.
